Many news outlets initially announced MANOI as a Kondo KHR-1 robot with a fancy shell. That is a reasonable assumption since the same company manufactures them, however it is untrue. MANOI is actually a descendant of Chroino, another robot creation by Tomotaka Takahashi of ROBOT-GARAGE in Kyoto. MANOI is considered an athletic robot and is capable of standing on one foot and standing up after a fall. Kyosho plans to hold the first ?Kyosho Athletics Humanoid Cup? in August 2006 with events including the 5-meter run, and the 20-meter run. MANOI is scheduled for release in June 2006 at a tentative price of $1,300 US.
