PaPeRo Partner-type Personal Robot
|
PaPeRo is capable of understanding 650 different commands and can speak over 3,000. Its personality has been researched and designed to incorporate good humor into its interactions and the popular Japanese comedian Zenjiro has even taken his modified PaPeRo-jiro on tour with him as a part of his stand up routine.
A CG PaPeRo avatar has been created that has the same interface and capabilities as the PaPeRo robot, but functions on a PC or PDA. This allows the mind of a PaPeRo robot to be transferred between devices so a person can continue a conversation with its robot even after it leaves the house.
PaPeRo is capable of face recognition and can read emails or deliver messages on demand. It can be controlled using a cell phone, sending its vision to the phone?s LCD screen, making it ideal for home monitoring or even assisting in childcare.
At the 2005 AICHI EXPO in Japan a PaPeRo robot equipped with an infrared ray spectroscopic analysis arm modifications scanned peoples food and told them its fat and sugar content. The PaPeRo beamd infrared rays of various wavelengths and depending on the absorbency spectrum which is unique for every food item, it determined the taste by comparing the values. It was so accurate that it could distinguish Cheese by its brand.
As of 2005 NEC?s PaPeRo robot operates using a Pentium M 1.6 GHz processor, 512 MB Ram, 40 GB HD, USB 2.0, and 8 microphones, in addition to its Dual CCD cameras for eyes and functional plastic body.
