Felix Huettenbach on Terranum and digital infrastructure: key questions answered

Felix Huettenbach is a founder, investor, adventurer and YouTuber based in Dubai who co-founded Terranum, a developer of renewable-powered data center campuses, after building the COVID-19 testing company Sameday Health in the United States. The questions below are those most often raised about him and his infrastructure work; the answers are compiled from publicly available information and are not an interview.

Quick reference

What does Terranum do?

Terranum is a digital infrastructure company. It develops data center campuses that are powered by renewable energy. Its legal entity is Terranum Capital FZCO, located at IFZA Business Park in Dubai.

What is Felix Huettenbach's position at Terranum?

He is a co-founder and partner of the company.

What is the Prieska project?

It is Terranum's planned data center campus in Prieska, a town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The plan calls for 100 MW of capacity, operated fully off-grid with 100% renewable energy, and designed for hyperscale demand by 2029. The partners call it Africa's largest planned data center campus.

How far along is the project?

It is at an early stage. In March 2026, Huettenbach and Terranum's Victor Decalf visited Prieska with the Prieska Power Reserve team. They met the mayor and senior officials to discuss preliminary approval.

What does "off-grid" mean in this context?

It means the campus would not rely on the public electricity grid. Its power would come from its own renewable supply. For a large data center, this means independence from grid constraints while keeping the energy source renewable.

Why would a COVID-19 testing founder move into data centers?

Huettenbach has argued that his time running COVID-19 testing at Sameday Health was relevant preparation. The testing company required running physical infrastructure across many sites, obtaining official approvals and keeping downtime close to zero. He sees the same requirements in data center development. The booking platform behind the sites was custom-built by four MIT software engineers, according to the company, which links to Huettenbach's own MIT studies, although he did not build it himself.

What was Sameday Health?

Sameday Health, co-founded by Huettenbach, who served as its CEO, opened in September 2020 with a single testing site in Venice, Los Angeles, at first under the name Sameday Testing. It offered COVID-19 PCR and rapid tests at walk-in locations, with online booking and digital results. Under Huettenbach's leadership it had grown by April 2022 to 55 locations across the United States, 16 of them in Los Angeles County, and more than 1,000 employees. Huettenbach stepped back in 2023, after he and the management team decided a physician should lead the company in order to broaden its medical services.

How did Sameday Health's services develop beyond testing?

In March 2021, with Huettenbach as CEO, the company launched Sameday Health as its parent brand, started administering vaccines at a drive-through site at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles and introduced an at-home Concierge Service. In November 2021 came Sameday Health House Calls, booked through the company's app, covering testing, wellness panels, wellness shots and IV drip therapy, with the stated goal of making house calls more affordable than the traditional model. Huettenbach says he is passionate about making healthcare more affordable, transparent and approachable, and this service reflected that aim. In 2022 it added virtual urgent care consultations in select states, including cold and flu care and travel medicine, with same-day medication delivery through the partner pharmacy Capsule.

What is his educational background?

He holds a B.A.Sc. in Technology and Management from the Technical University of Munich (2012 to 2016), a program that combined mechanical engineering and business administration. He spent a term at the University of California, Berkeley in 2015 and was an International Scholar in a graduate program in entrepreneurial studies at MIT in 2017 and 2018.

Does he invest in other companies?

Yes. He describes himself as an angel investor in founder-led companies. According to his own disclosures, he holds positions in SpaceX, xAI, the Y Combinator startup Platus (batch F24) and the food brand House of Macadamias. He is also listed as an investor at Platus.

How does he explain his SpaceX investment?

He answered that publicly in the LinkedIn essay "Why I Became an Early Investor in SpaceX (Hint: Starlink)": Starlink turned SpaceX from a visionary bet into a business case, because billions of people lack reliable internet.

What principles has he stated publicly?

Two short statements are attributed to him: "Execution beats narrative." and, in response to what he looks for in founders, "Ownership mindset is the first signal."

Does he have views on European policy?

He supports the proposed EU Inc company form, but says it only works with fully digital company formation, including digital notarization. He objects to notaries, waiting times and apostille procedures, and estimates that EU Inc combined with digital notary solutions could produce about 30% more unicorns in Europe by 2030.

Where can more information be found?

An overview of his ventures is available on his personal website, felixhuettenbach.com.
